The Influence of Rockstar Games

While the game’s concept—viewing the world from the perspective of a small pet—is inherently unique, the team looked to established industry giants to figure out how to structure the experience. Project overseer Katayama noted that his fandom of Grand Theft Auto V played a primary role in the game’s design.

"I'm a big fan of Grand Theft Auto V, where you switch between three protagonists as you progress," Katayama explained. "As I was having fun switching between the lives of other people, lives that weren't my own, I had this idea that it might be nice to have a hamster as one of the options instead of a human."

Mascot Costumes and Perspective

Beyond the mechanical influence of open-world titles, the creative team drew from personal experience to ground the game's perspective. Designer Oda and project overseer Katayama emphasized that the project was built around the desire to explore life from a different vantage point.

Katayama revealed that his previous part-time job wearing mascot costumes provided the initial spark for the game. "I realized that whenever I wore a costume, children and elderly people who would normally never approach me suddenly became very friendly," he said.
