Infinity Ward has increased the time-to-kill (TTK) in Modern Warfare 4 by pushing out a series of weapon nerfs following player backlash during the game's beta.

Quick Facts

  • Game: Modern Warfare 4
  • Developer: Infinity Ward
  • Key Change: Increased TTK via damage and range nerfs to meta weapons
  • Open Beta Start Date: August 28, 2026

Time-to-kill has been a frequent subject of debate across the Call of Duty franchise, with past entries like MW19 and 2022's Modern Warfare 2 drawing criticism for overly fast TTK that lowered the skill gap. When the Modern Warfare 4 open beta kicked off on August 21, players immediately raised similar complaints about quick elimination times.

In response to the feedback, Infinity Ward confirmed on August 23 that TTK remained a primary focus. The studio stated they were identifying weapons killing too fast and adjusting them based on player feedback and in-game data.

Affected Meta Weapons and Range Adjustments

Following an update on August 24, developers deployed several adjustments to locational multipliers including the head, neck, and torso. Popular meta weapons such as the Han 86, Kastov 762, PPSh-41, and MAR-9 now deal reduced damage to these areas alongside reduced damage ranges.

As an example of the range reductions, the Han 86 now deals its maximum damage only within 23.5 meters, down from the pre-patch limit of 26.1 meters.

Players should notice gunfights lasting slightly longer in multiplayer matches alongside broader weapon variety as the playing field evens out. Infinity Ward indicated they will continue reading feedback and assessing data ahead of the full Open Beta launch starting August 28.
