Quick Facts

  • Release Window: Early 2027
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store
  • Developer: Archetype Entertainment (under Wizards of the Coast)
  • Lead Developer: James Ohlen
  • Protagonist: Jun Aslan (Salvager turned Traveler)

Story and Time Dilation

Set 40,000 years in the future, the game follows Jun Aslan, a salvager from the moon Lidon. Lidon is threatened by the Rot, a Celestial virus driving the population toward extinction. Jun becomes a Traveler to search the Centauri Cluster for Celestial Remnants—advanced technology that could save the homeworld.

Time dilation is a core storytelling device during interstellar travel. Because Travelers move close to the speed of light, Jun experiences a few days during a journey while years or decades pass for people left behind. Relationships, technologies, and entire societies can change significantly between missions, and players discover those consequences only after returning home.

Gameplay and Combat Mechanics

Exodus utilizes third-person real-time combat combining guns, alien abilities, stealth, and companion support. Jun faces human factions, Celestial forces, and bioengineered creatures while recovering gear that expands options for later missions.

The primary weapon is the Recycler, which switches between multiple firing configurations:

  • Repeater: Mid-range sustained fire
  • Shredder: Close-range combat
  • Piercer: Long-range precision attacks
  • Bomber: Grenade launcher
  • Specter: Stealth precision kills

Jun's Gauntlet also grants alien abilities such as Eruption to manipulate livestone and launch enemies, Lance to remove Rot growth, Precognition for enemy tracking, Scramble Cloak for stealth, and Sonic Lure to draw enemies.

Paladin and Immortal Alignments

Decisions made throughout the story push Jun toward either a Paladin or Immortal alignment. Paladin choices prioritize others even at a personal loss, while Immortal choices favor ambition and personal power. This alignment dictates character progression, dialogue options, and which abilities Jun can upgrade.

Companions and Romance

Jun travels alongside several distinct companions, including former Traveler Tom Vargas, 23rd-century Sleeper mercenary Elise Charroux, blind xeno-archaeologist Phaedra Nath, Awakened octopus bounty hunter Salt, wolf companion Houston, Suliman, and legendary figure C.C. Orlev (voiced by Matthew McConaughey). Romance is integrated into the companion system, though Archetype has not yet revealed specific romance options.

Expanded Universe Material

Beyond the game, the Exodus universe includes two novels by sci-fi author Peter F. Hamilton (The Archimedes Engine and The Helium Sea), an episode of Prime Video's Secret Level anthology titled Exodus: Odyssey, and a tabletop RPG featuring the Traveler's Handbook and Creature Catalog. Archetype notes that none of this material is required reading to understand the game.
