Like many gacha games, Genshin Impact utilizes a pity system designed to guarantee five-star drops after a specific number of pulls, preventing players from completely exhausting their Primogems without a reward. Understanding how these mechanics operate across different banner types helps clarify what happens to your pulls over time.

How Hard Pity Works Across Banners

Pity limits differ depending on whether you are wishing on character event banners, weapon banners, or the standard banner. Pity also carries over exclusively between banners of the same type—meaning fifty pulls on one character event banner roll over directly to the next.

  • Character Banners: Grants a guaranteed five-star character every 90 pulls. Event banners last roughly 21 days each.
  • Weapon Banners: Grants a guaranteed five-star weapon every 80 pulls.
  • Standard Banner: Grants a guaranteed five-star character or weapon every 90 pulls, with no additional rules like 50/50s or rate-ups.

Soft Pity Thresholds

Soft pity increases the odds of pulling a five-star as your wish count climbs higher before hitting hard pity. For character event banners, soft pity kicks in at your 74th wish. For weapon banners, soft pity begins earlier on the 64th wish. Once you pass these thresholds, the probability of receiving a five-star increases steadily with every additional wish.

The 50/50 System and Capturing Radiance

When you pull a five-star on a character event banner, there is a 50 percent chance it will be the featured limited-time character. If you lose this 50/50 to a standard character, your next five-star is guaranteed to be the featured event character. In the worst-case scenario where you lose every coin-flip, securing the desired character can take up to 180 pulls.

Additionally, a mechanic called Capturing Radiance can occasionally turn a lost 50/50 into a win with a signature pink glow during the pull animation. If you lose the 50/50 three consecutive times, the next non-guaranteed five-star is automatically triggered to be the featured event character.

Weapon Banners and Epitomized Paths

Weapon banners operate on a 75/25 odd split for featured items, though two distinct weapons run simultaneously. To target a specific weapon, players use the Epitomized Path mechanic. Selecting a target weapon grants a Fate Point whenever you pull a five-star that is not the one you chose. A single Fate Point guarantees that your next five-star weapon will be the targeted choice. Note that unlike standard pity, Fate Points do not carry over between banners, and changing or canceling your target resets your accumulated Fate Points.

How to Check Your Pity

You can track your exact pity progress by opening the Wish menu and selecting the history button on your chosen banner. Because each page displays five items—with four-star items marked in purple text and five-stars in gold text—you can calculate your current pity count:

  1. Navigate back to your most recent five-star drop in the history logs.
  2. Multiply the number of pages between that drop and your current position by five.
  3. Subtract any wishes that occurred before the five-star on that same page.

Keep in mind that pull history logs only store data for six months, meaning extremely old pulls won't appear if you haven't played in a while, though this historical cutoff does not affect your active pity or 50/50 guarantees.
