Developer James Oliver is turning his physics-powered 3D platformer, Marble’s Marbles, into a hub for indie spirit. Starting June 28, 2026, the game will receive a series of free crossover levels that reimagine other indie titles as challenging, momentum-based marble courses.
This update is a direct thank-you to the existing player base. Rather than locking content behind a paywall, the crossover stages are a free addition for everyone who already owns the game on Steam. The rollout begins with four levels on June 28, followed by an additional five stages throughout July. Beyond just new maps, each release includes a behind-the-scenes video documenting how these indie worlds were adapted into the game's physics-driven engine.
Reimagining Indie Worlds
The crossover isn't just about aesthetic references. Each level is built to capture the mechanical and visual identity of the featured titles, testing players' control over weight, gravity, and speed. The roster of games receiving the Marble’s Marbles treatment includes:
- Spaceport Trading Company: A dive into a space merchant fantasy.
- Fragile Packages: Handle With Care: A stage built around climbing and platforming chaos.
- Saadex Defense: A spin on the game's tower defense and RTS mechanics.
- Pumpkin Seeds: A nod to the short, free-to-play idle release.
- All Hail The Orb: A pixel-art inspired level featuring the game's signature ducks.
These levels serve to highlight the diversity of the indie scene, folding distinct gameplay styles into the core 3D platforming loop. It is a personal project from a solo developer, and that intent shows in the way these disparate games are folded into a single, cohesive marble playground.
Platform Support and Control Improvements
For players on Linux and Steam Deck, Marble’s Marbles remains a notable release for its native platform support. The game is verified for the Steam Deck, making it a strong candidate for short, high-intensity platforming sessions. While official frame rate benchmarks have not been provided, the game's commitment to broad platform support on Windows, Mac, and Linux continues to be a priority for the developer.
Alongside the new levels, the update introduces refinements to the experimental mouse and trackball control scheme. Since the game relies on precise, momentum-based movement, these input changes aim to make pointer-based navigation feel smoother for desktop users who prefer a mouse over a controller.
Marble’s Marbles is currently available on Steam. The title is currently priced at $5.14 USD, reflecting a 41% discount.
