Following negative player reviews on Steam regarding AI-generated elements, developer ALIVE Inc. has confirmed plans to remove all AI cutscenes from Vapor World: Over The Mind. The 2D souls-like platformer recently joined Xbox Game Pass as part of the August 19th lineup.

Quick Facts

  • Developer: ALIVE Inc.
  • Platform: Xbox Series X (alongside PC/Steam release)
  • Timeline: AI cutscenes scheduled for complete removal by this weekend

According to the game's director, the team turned to AI after finding their original hand-crafted cutscenes "devastating" in early attempts to convey the narrative. The director acknowledged that using AI cutscenes was a hasty judgment and a wrong call that hurt the player experience, noting that the controversy was larger than anticipated.

Fortunately, the original in-game cutscenes were already built beforehand while the team was in the middle of transitioning them to AI. Because those original versions already exist, the developer stated that the fix will not take long. ALIVE Inc. has made two formal promises: no future use of AI-generated cutscenes, and the total removal of all existing AI cutscenes from the game by the weekend, followed by an update detailing the changes.
