Grand Theft Auto VI developers may have given players their first concrete indication of how massive the upcoming title's runtime will be. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson revealed in an interview with The New York Times that his own playthrough of Grand Theft Auto VI reached 80 hours.
That 80-hour duration included completing the main story alongside optional goals carrying narrative ramifications. Because the scope of Grand Theft Auto VI is so large, exact completion times for general players remain difficult to pin down precisely based solely on developer testing runs.
Comparing Past Rockstar Campaigns
To put this potential runtime into perspective, previous entries in the series offered substantially shorter completion windows. Grand Theft Auto IV required roughly 27 hours for the main story, stretching to about 40 hours for players tackling all side content. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V took approximately 32 hours for its core narrative and around 50 hours for complete completionists.
An 80-hour total for a combined main story and optional narrative goal playthrough would make Grand Theft Auto VI a significantly larger and longer experience than either GTA 4 or GTA 5. However, because Nelson's estimate is based on a single personal playthrough rather than a rigid baseline, players should view the figure as an early indicator rather than a guaranteed time commitment.
