Publisher 33 Games has announced that First Samurai will receive a new physical re-release for the Super Nintendo (SNES). The project is currently expected to arrive in early 2027, according to an exclusive report from Time Extension.
Quick Facts
- Game: First Samurai
- Platform: SNES (Physical)
- Expected Release: Early 2027
- Publisher: 33 Games
Originally developed by Vivid Image and published by Kemco for the SNES in 1993, the title featured significant changes to level design compared to its earlier Amiga and Atari ST iterations. The new physical release is the latest in a series of retro-focused projects from 33 Games, following their recent work on titles like Zool, Utopia, and Stone Protectors.
While specific details regarding the contents of the physical package remain under wraps, the publisher has indicated that they have "something really special" planned for the release. The company also confirmed that it is currently working on an additional project involving a major, as-yet-unannounced license.
First Samurai was recently included in The Samurai Collection for modern hardware, but this upcoming SNES cartridge marks a return to the original 16-bit format.
