Gaijin Entertainment has announced that War Thunder will introduce a new kill credit mechanic for ground and naval battles in the game's next major update. This change aims to address player frustration regarding opponents who abandon their vehicles to avoid being destroyed.
How the New Mechanic Functions
Currently, players in air battles receive a kill credit if an opponent bails out, provided the player is the nearest enemy within a specific radius. This system is now expanding to tanks and ships. When a player leaves their vehicle via the ESC menu or by holding the 'J' key, the game will assign the kill to the nearest enemy or the player who fired the nearest projectile.
Quick Facts
- Ground Vehicle Range: 3 km radius.
- Naval Vessel Range: 20 km radius.
- Reward: Players receive half of the standard kill reward.
- Projectile Priority: The system prioritizes the player who fired the closest projectile, including both guided and unguided munitions.
If no enemies or projectiles are detected within the specified ranges, no kill credit will be awarded, mirroring the current behavior of the game. The developer confirmed that this update is scheduled for the next major content release, though a specific date for the patch was not provided in the announcement.
