Human Qube Games and reno have brought Drop Loot, a new dungeon crawler that reinvents traditional block-dropping puzzles, to an open Steam playtest. The title merges grid-based combat with tactical mechanics, challenging players to manage a board filled with monsters and loot.

Strategic Combat Mechanics

In Drop Loot, players must strategically drop pairs of items onto the board to survive. Combat is dictated by placement: matching swords and bombs adjacent to enemies inflicts damage, while bows and explosive spells provide ranged options to manage incoming waves. Survival requires a balance of offense and utility, as players must also manage hearts for health, shields to mitigate incoming attacks, and coins to purchase gear.

Progression and Difficulty

As runs progress, players can visit shops to acquire stackable powers and run-altering upgrades, allowing for potential synergy builds that can clear boards automatically. The dungeon environment scales in difficulty, with enemies possessing distinct health pools, armor ratings, and attack values. Overcrowded boards limit available drop zones, and boss encounters feature unique attack patterns that require players to adapt their strategies mid-run.
