Roblox has introduced strict new content rules targeting reward-driven media feeds following widespread community backlash over games encouraging short-form video overconsumption.
The policy shift follows the platform's recent removal of Steal an Egg, a pet-raising simulator that drew heavy online criticism for implementing continuous reel-scrolling mechanics on a virtual treadmill. While users initially questioned why the game was taken down, developers clarified the decision in a new post detailing platform updates.
New Restrictions on Roblox Kids and Select Games
Effective immediately, Roblox developers announced that games within Roblox Kids and Select can no longer feature a combination of specific engagement loops designed to keep players glued to endless content.
Specifically, the platform prohibits games that combine all of the following elements:
- A media feed containing short-form videos, images, or story-style posts.
- A feed that autoplays, loops, or scrolls on its own without user input.
- A reward, or an implied reward, tied to continued watching.
Explaining the reasoning behind the sudden policy update, developers stated that rewarding users to consume a continuous feed of content without natural stopping points is inappropriate for younger users.
Community reaction to the sudden enforcement has been largely positive, with players welcoming platform decisions aimed at user health rather than stock growth. The multi-platform gaming ecosystem remains one of the largest in the world, alongside popular hits like Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot.
