Torpor Games, the studio behind the political strategy RPG Suzerain, is significantly expanding its footprint in 2026. After a four-year gap between the original game’s release and its first expansion, Kingdom of Rizia, the developer has announced three distinct projects currently in development: two DLCs and a standalone strategy spinoff.
Quick Facts
- Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens: A narrative-focused DLC where players take the role of journalist Ilias Morris.
- Wars of Suzerain: A standalone turn-based strategy game focused on military conflict.
- Suzerain: Socialist Republic of Galmland: A major expansion where players lead the communist government of Galmland.
- Studio Funding: Torpor Games secured investment from Sisu Game Ventures, 1Up Ventures, and Krafton following the performance of Kingdom of Rizia.
Expanding the Suzerain Universe
The studio’s decision to move toward a multi-project strategy is partly a response to the volatile nature of the games industry. Co-founder Ata Sergey Nowak noted that the studio has seen other developers in Berlin shuttered, pushing Torpor to adopt a “scrappy” approach to maintain financial health and audience engagement. By utilizing separate teams and freelancers, the studio aims to keep the Suzerain world active while continuing work on their upcoming flagship title, The Conformist.
Suzerain Stories: The Neutral Lens is the first of these to arrive later this year. Unlike the original game or Kingdom of Rizia, which place players in the shoes of national leaders, The Neutral Lens shifts the perspective to Ilias Morris, a TV news host. Players will manage resources and choose coverage angles to report on the same historical events seen in other Suzerain titles, offering a broader view of the continent's political landscape.
New Mechanics and Standalone Titles
For players seeking more tactical depth, Wars of Suzerain marks a major departure from the series' visual novel roots. As a standalone turn-based strategy game, it expands on the war mechanics first introduced in Kingdom of Rizia. Nowak emphasized that while the game will feature “light” personal dramas and focus on human costs, it is designed specifically for an audience that wants more systems-heavy gameplay.
Following Wars of Suzerain, the studio will release Suzerain: Socialist Republic of Galmland. This major expansion returns to the format of Kingdom of Rizia, casting the player as Premier Vigdis Gjalmir. The gameplay will focus on navigating the complexities of the Contanan Security Pact, forcing players to balance national autonomy against the demands of a powerful central communist authority. Like previous releases, player choices will carry over from Sordland and Rizia save files, maintaining continuity within the game’s lore.
Torpor Games intends for these projects to be iterative, with the potential for further Stories-style DLCs if the format proves successful. By diversifying their releases, the studio hopes to scale their operations toward the level of larger strategy publishers while keeping their community engaged with the fictional world of Suzerain.
