Hardware manufacturer Keychron has announced a new project called ZGM (Zephyr Gaming Mouse), aimed at bringing open-source firmware to the gaming mouse market. The company confirmed that the project is built on the Zephyr RTOS, which it states will allow for broad microcontroller support and a scalable, maintainable development ecosystem.

The project also supports both wired USB and wireless connections, with integrated battery and power management.
For competitive players, the company claims the firmware prioritizes low-latency input, featuring optimized sensor polling and precise click processing. The firmware is licensed under the GPL-3.0, allowing for public inspection and community contributions, similar to existing projects like QMK and ZMK.
The G6 HE is currently the only confirmed hardware slated to ship with ZGM support, with a release window expected in the first quarter of 2027.
