Developer Boundary and publisher Krafton have revealed Tarae: The Unbound, a new action role-playing game that shifts away from standard Western dark fantasy conventions. The announcement arrived via a trailer featured in the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live montage, introducing an ARPG built around traditional Eastern aesthetics and folklore.

Quick Facts

  • Platforms: PC (Steam)
  • Developer: Boundary
  • Publisher: Krafton
  • Release Date: Unannounced

Setting and Aesthetic

According to its official Steam page, Tarae: The Unbound is set in "a world that reimagines Eastern myth, folklore, and traditional aesthetics, where beauty and mystery are entwined with darkness and brutality." Promotional screenshots and gameplay clips show characters fighting enemies inside Buddhist temples and battling bosses featuring distended features inspired by East Asian monster illustrations.

Character options include distinct class concepts, such as a historic matchlock gunner capable of rapid-fire explosive attacks. Meanwhile, the game's leveling, equipment, and combat systems draw on buildcrafting mechanics tied to the Five Elements, Yin and Yang, karma, and the cycle of reincarnation. Boundary states that these systems will allow for varied builds even within a single class.

Release Availability

Tarae: The Unbound does not currently have a confirmed release window or launch date. PC players can, however, wishlist the title on Steam ahead of future updates from Boundary and Krafton.
