Stoke Games has launched the first public playtest for Tyr, a new multiplayer tank shooter currently in development for PC. The playtest is available now through Steam and will remain open until August 2, 2026.

Development and Core Gameplay

The studio behind Tyr, Stoke Games, is composed of developers who previously worked on League of Legends, Valorant, StarCraft 2, and Destiny 2. The title features a sci-fi aesthetic with hovertanks and colorful, expansive landscapes.

Gameplay emphasizes visibility and tactical reconnaissance. Each tank is equipped with specific detection and vision ranges, which players can track via the minimap. Because tanks remain invisible to opponents until they are formally detected, positioning and the use of environmental cover like bushes are essential for survival.

Armor and Combat Mechanics

Combat in Tyr focuses on specific armor profiles and positioning. The game utilizes a system where tanks feature unique, color-coded armor thickness across different sections of the vehicle.

  • Penetration Values: Player weapons have varying penetration capabilities. Strikes made head-on are generally more effective than those made at an angle.
  • Mobility: The game features hovertanks capable of strafing and tilting to target enemies in lower elevations like gorges.
  • Special Abilities: Each tank class includes a unique ability, such as the capacity to deploy a wall for tactical advantage.
