The live-action Sleeping Dogs adaptation remains in active development, according to an update provided by lead actor and producer Simu Liu on August 16, 2026. While the project has seen delays, Liu confirmed that the production team now has a director, a production company, and a clear path toward completion.

Current Status of Production

The project is currently in the dealmaking phase with publisher Square Enix. Liu, who is set to star as the undercover cop Wei Shen, noted that the script draft was completed in October 2025. Development is being supported by the production studio Story Kitchen, which specializes in video game adaptations.

Quick Facts

  • Director: Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2, Killers) is attached to direct.
  • Production Partner: The video game adaptation studio Story Kitchen is involved in the project.
