Relic Entertainment is expanding the Company of Heroes universe with a new, standalone spin-off titled Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand. Launching in July 2026, the title shifts away from the grand scale of the main series, offering a “snackable” wave defence roguelite experience designed for strategy fans who want action without the commitment of a full-scale World War campaign.
The core gameplay loop involves surviving 12 consecutive rounds of enemy attacks. As players progress, they must steadily expand and upgrade their custom battlegroup. According to the developers, the experience is designed to be newbie-friendly, providing a more accessible entry point compared to the main Company of Heroes 3 strategy sim.
Modes, Factions, and Progression
Despite its smaller scope, the game features a significant amount of content. Players can choose from four factions: the US Forces, Wehrmacht, British Forces, or the Deutsches Afrikakorps. Each run presents unique challenges, with 36 boss units and 18 possible “dynamic” events spread across five different battlegrounds. To keep the difficulty balanced, the game includes eight distinct difficulty settings.
The roguelite elements are woven into the progression system. After every wave, players choose from randomized units or abilities that persist for the remainder of their run. Between these sessions, players can unlock persistent upgrades, including perks and abilities within faction-specific trees. Relic notes that these upgrades are intended to change how each faction plays, encouraging long-term mastery and experimentation.
Pricing and Developer Context
The game will be available for $30, with a 20% discount offered to those who already own Company of Heroes 3. While this price point is higher than some might expect for a “bite-sized” spin-off, Relic is framing it as a robust experience. The studio has history with this style of gameplay, having previously developed the well-regarded The Last Stand mode for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2.
This release follows a period of transition for Relic Entertainment, which became independent after being sold by Sega in 2024. Under the leadership of CEO Justin Dowdeswell, the studio has been actively mining its catalog for projects, including the Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition and a Definitive Edition of the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. Additionally, the studio recently released Earth vs Mars, a turn-based, B-movie-inspired project that has also seen traction with players on Steam.
