The French video game union Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) has initiated an open-ended strike at Quantic Dream as of August 5, 2026. The labor action follows the studio's decision to end development on the MOBA Spellcasters Chronicles, a move that affects approximately 115 staff members.

Dispute Over Layoff Negotiations

The STJV claims that management has engaged in bad-faith bargaining throughout the three-month negotiation period. In a blog post published August 4, the union alleged that executives ignored worker proposals, imposed illegal deadlines, and withheld necessary documentation. The union is formally demanding an extension to the negotiation period and insists that proposals from worker representatives be integrated into the final layoff plan.

The union stated, "It is clear that Quantic Dream’s management wants to limit itself to doing the bare minimum," adding that executives have failed to provide decent conditions for those losing their jobs due to the project cancellation.

Impact on Star Wars Eclipse

Despite the ongoing labor dispute and the broader national strike action called by the STJV in June, Quantic Dream maintains that its flagship project remains unaffected. The studio previously told IGN that development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing as planned, asserting that the team possesses all necessary resources to complete the game.

While the studio has publicly stated its commitment to the project, the extent to which the current strike may delay internal milestones or impact long-term development capacity remains unknown. Quantic Dream has not provided further comment on the union's specific demands regarding the layoff plan.
