The team at Square Glade Games and Silver Lining Interactive has pushed the first major content update for Outbound, bringing a calmer, more deliberate pace to the open-world camper-van simulator. Available now on Steam and the Humble Store, the Fishing Update is a free download that aims to deepen the game's core loop of exploration and home customization.

⚡ Quick Facts
  • Update: Fishing Update (Major Content Patch)
  • Platforms: PC, Steam Deck (via Proton)
  • Pricing: Free for all existing owners
  • Key Additions: Fishing system, fish tanks, new building parts

A New Rhythm for Van Life

The update introduces a full-scale fishing system that moves beyond simple mechanics. Players can craft various tiers of fishing rods, encouraging them to seek out better gear and explore different biomes to find rare species. By tying the activity to progression and exploration, the developers have created a "just one more cast" loop that complements the game's existing focus on slow travel and automation.

Base building has also received a significant quality-of-life boost. Players can now craft four types of fish tanks to display their catches, turning their camper vans into personalized museums. Additionally, the update addresses long-standing requests for better interior design tools: six new buildable stairs and four new doors have been added, allowing for multi-level layouts and distinct rooms within your mobile home.

Technical Improvements for Handheld Play

For those playing on the Steam Deck, this update is particularly noteworthy. While the game relies on the Windows version running via Proton, it is being pushed as Steam Deck Verified. Along with this, the developers have implemented RAM consumption improvements, which should lead to a smoother experience during longer play sessions on handheld hardware.

The patch also includes several targeted fixes. The bamboo shelf now features better targeting for item placement and an expanded inventory capacity. The audio mix has been adjusted so that airplanes are audible from greater distances, and the companion dog’s AI has been refined to stop storing items correctly while searching for new ones.

Since its launch in May 2026, Outbound has attracted over 250,000 players. With the addition of the Fishing Update, Square Glade Games is leaning further into the cozy design that defined the title's early success, providing a substantial reason for both new and returning players to revisit their van.
