OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed that Thick as Thieves will receive no further content updates following recent layoffs at the studio. Despite the downsizing, the team is working with publisher Megabit to ensure the title remains accessible to players.
Quick Facts
- Developer: OtherSide Entertainment
- Publisher: Megabit
- Current Status: No further content updates; transition to peer-to-peer (P2P) servers in progress.
- Platform: PC
Transition to Peer-to-Peer Servers
The studio announced in a recent blog post that a small remaining team is currently preparing an update to shift the game away from its existing cloud-based infrastructure. By implementing peer-to-peer servers, the developers aim to preserve the game's functionality without the need for dedicated cloud hosting.
According to the studio, the gameplay flow will remain unchanged. Solo play will be completely unaffected by these technical adjustments, and the P2P transition is intended to allow players to continue co-op sessions with friends after the shift is complete. Once this update is deployed, responsibility for addressing lingering bugs or technical issues will shift to the publisher, Megabit.
A Challenging Development Cycle
The news follows a difficult period for the project. Initially revealed over two years ago as a multiplayer immersive sim, the game eventually pivoted to a solo and co-op focus ahead of its launch. Following its release, the studio underwent a round of layoffs involving 17 staff members, which also resulted in the cancellation of another project, Argos: Riders on the Storm.
While the studio described the current situation as “heartbreaking,” the move to sustain the game’s playability stands in contrast to the industry trend of shuttering online-dependent titles. The game is currently available for purchase at a price point of $5.
