Cloud gaming on Linux has officially expanded beyond its testing phase. NVIDIA released the stable version of its GeForce NOW app for Linux on August 13, 2026, following a beta period that launched in January 2026.

The transition out of beta brings several performance and usability upgrades aimed directly at Linux users. Built using months of community feedback, the stable release centers on overall stability, polish, and performance. For Linux gamers, the service provides an alternative way to run demanding titles that are blocked on SteamOS or Linux due to anti-cheat restrictions, as well as a way to play modern games on lower-powered local hardware. Cloud-Side Performance Improvements
Alongside the native Linux app release, NVIDIA deployed automatic cloud-side upgrades for GeForce NOW at no additional cost to members. DLSS Frame Generation has been optimized in the cloud to reduce input latency, resulting in more responsive camera pans and mouse movements when streaming at 60 or 120 frames per second in 1440p and 4K resolutions.
Additionally, Performance tier members receive server software optimizations designed to improve frame rates in CPU-intensive games. These background improvements require no manual configuration or installation from users.
