Players awaiting the return of the real-time strategy series will have to wait slightly longer to jump into Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV. Developer KING Art and publisher Deep Silver have officially rescheduled the game's launch, moving it from its initial September 2026 window to December 3, 2026.

Reason for the Delay

According to Game Director Jan Theysen, the decision to push the release date comes after analyzing feedback from thousands of playtesters. The development team is using the extra weeks to focus on technical refinements, specifically targeting bug fixes and performance optimizations to ensure a more polished experience at launch.

The studio plans to showcase their progress on these feedback-driven improvements in the coming weeks ahead of the new December launch date.

Quick Facts

  • New Release Date: December 3, 2026
  • Platform: PC (via Steam)

What to Expect at Launch

Dawn of War IV is set to be the largest entry in the franchise to date. The game features four distinct factions, each with its own cinematic CGI intro and a non-linear campaign co-written by Black Library author John French. Mechanically, the game aims to blend classic RTS base-building and resource gathering with a new "Combat Director" system designed to enhance the visceral nature of melee engagements.

Players can also expect an in-game editor for user-created content and a dedicated Painter tool for unit customization. Those who wish to follow the development progress can monitor the official Steam store page for further updates leading up to the December release.
