Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has clarified his long-standing ambitions regarding space travel, explaining that while he still intends to leave Earth eventually, he plans to focus on making video games and movies first.

Speaking during a panel at the Il Cinema in Piazza film festival in Rome—with translation provided by Genki_JPN—Kojima discussed how he views his personal aspirations. Valve boss Gabe Newell previously attempted to set up Kojima with a tour of SpaceX following a Death Stranding showcase due to his frequent mentions of wanting to visit space.

"I want to share this with all of you: We all want to make our dreams come true, right? Take me for example, I want to go to space and I want to make a movie etc.," Kojima said during the event. However, he noted that "it wouldn't be good if those dreams just came true."

According to Kojima, dreams serve as ultimate goals that require achieving secondary, third, and fourth dreams along the way. "That's because dreams are goals," he stated. "The idea is to achieve the second, third, and fourth dreams along the way before reaching your ultimate dream. For the time being, I think I'll keep on making games without going to space."

At the same Rome event, Kojima also remarked that he would like to die in a movie theater shortly after the trailers play. Because commercial movie theaters are currently restricted to Earth's atmosphere, space travel will likely have to wait.

Player-impact context: For fans playing on PC, Konami is offering the original Metal Gear Solid free to play on Steam this weekend as the publisher builds toward the release of Master Collection Volume 2.
