Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, the new anime fighter from developer Arc System Works pitting Marvel heroes against each other, has launched on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. While the PlayStation 5 version runs smoothly for players outside of occasional online lag, the PC version has landed with heavy performance friction and negative user feedback.
Quick Facts
- Release: Available now on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5.
- Steam Launch Player Count: 24,498 peak players on launch day, compared to Dragon Ball FighterZ's 44,303 peak in 2018.
- Platform Issues: Heavy CPU and memory usage reported on PC, with Linux users facing particularly severe problems.
- Developer Response: Arc System Works confirmed it is actively investigating PC performance reports.
PC Performance Troubles and Steam Reviews
Following a rough open beta test on PC two weeks prior to launch, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls debuted on Steam with an abysmal 44 percent approval rating. Players note that the game is oddly demanding on hardware. During testing, the game frequently utilized upwards of 95 percent of CPU capacity and consumed nearly 5,000MB of physical memory. Additionally, six separate versions of the PlayStation PC SDK Runtime application boot alongside the game.
Linux users have reported severe difficulties getting the game to run properly. Steam user reviews heavily criticize the port's optimization, with some players advising others to wait for a hotfix before purchasing.
Arc System Works Investigating
On launch morning, Arc System Works published a statement thanking fans for playing and addressing the technical hiccups. "We're aware that some PC players are experiencing performance issues," the studio wrote. "The team is actively investigating these reports."
Not all PC players have experienced hardware issues, meaning experiences vary by setup. However, those picking up the game on Steam face a gamble regarding stability until the developer deploys performance patches.
