Following its arrival on Steam last month, the isometric action RPG Lunarium has stabilized, garnering hundreds of positive user reviews. Developed by Lunariumstudio, the game centers on the journey of two girls and features a deflect-driven combat system that has drawn direct comparisons to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nier: Automata.

Combat Design and Influences

Director Jixiang confirmed that Sekiro served as a primary reference point during development. The team views the title as a sophisticated refinement of combat mechanics found in earlier FromSoftware projects. While Sekiro focuses on strict, tempo-based challenges, the developers of Lunarium opted for a broader approach to buildcrafting, utilizing an "embroidery system" that allows players to equip abilities via a cloak.

Addressing Difficulty Feedback

Since the game's launch, the development team has been monitoring player feedback regarding the difficulty curve. Jixiang noted that the studio does not feel they have achieved a perfect balance yet, but they are actively making adjustments.

Regarding their philosophy on challenge, Jixiang explained: "I'd rather let the game lean toward being somewhat too easy once players have gained enough power. I think the negative experience caused by making the game unnecessarily difficult can be worse." The studio intends for players to overcome hurdles through a combination of build adjustments, stat growth, and pattern recognition rather than demanding extreme mechanical mastery.
