The controversy, highlighted by a Gamers Nexus report, centered on pop-up recommendations for McAfee that appeared on users' desktops upon booting their computers.
What Is Changing
In response to the feedback, LG is taking the following actions regarding its monitor companion software:
- Removal of third-party promotions: LG has removed the McAfee pop-up recommendation and states it no longer plans to recommend McAfee or any other third-party software through the app.
- User choice for installation: The company is changing how the companion app is delivered, giving customers the choice of whether they want to install the software at all when setting up their monitor.
- Data privacy: LG reiterated that the application does not collect or transmit personal information or user data from customer devices.
The company noted that the McAfee pop-up was previously limited to the United States region for a restricted period. Following the initial reports, Microsoft reached out to LG to request that the company disable the pop-ups.
