If you have spent any time playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, you might find it to be an effective outlet for stress. It turns out, that success hasn't just been a win for players; it has served as a defining moment for the developer behind the title, Saber Interactive.

Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits recently opened up about the impact of the project, noting that it has fundamentally shifted the studio's trajectory. "It not only changed the way that the team looks at making games, it changed how people look at us," Willits told The Game Business. He explained that a massive hit creates a new standard for internal expectations, where every subsequent project is pushed to reach the same level of quality, effectively fueling the studio's future success.

A Reputation Built on Licensed IP

The success of Space Marine 2 has created a ripple effect regarding the types of projects coming through the studio's doors. Because of their proven track record with major licensed properties, Saber Interactive is now facing a surplus of potential partners.

"Because we have a reputation of really doing well with licensed IPs, every major license holder wants to make a video game," Willits said. "So, we are in a very fortunate position to turn down more than we can accept."

Willits noted that the studio has even had to pass on specific, high-profile opportunities simply because they are currently at capacity. While he declined to name the specific companies or projects turned away, he described it as a "nice problem to have."

What Is Next for Saber Interactive?

The studio remains busy with a slate of upcoming releases. Their next major project is Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, a first-person horror title co-written by Barker, slated for release this October. Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, the studio is managing several other high-profile projects, including:

  • Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered
  • Turok: Origins
  • The long-in-development Knights of the Old Republic remake

With multiple studios operating under the company umbrella and a clear focus on high-quality production, it seems likely that the Space Marine series may see future entries, though the team is currently prioritizing their diverse portfolio of upcoming titles.
