Frictional Games, the studio known for Amnesia: The Bunker, has officially revealed its next project, Ontos. The announcement arrived alongside a gameplay trailer showcasing a near-future setting where humanity has established a lunar hotel and is experimenting with unconventional hardware.
Gameplay and Setting
The trailer for Ontos emphasizes a bleak technological premise, featuring a character connected to electrodes and a wall-sized computer powered by a sequence of 60 rats. The narrative centers on a system that utilizes these rodents as an alternative to modern RAM, which the trailer suggests has become unaffordable due to AI datacenter demands.
Player Choice and Objectives
Frictional Games has stated there is "no right or wrong solution" in Ontos. Players are presented with the choice to follow instructions provided by the rodent-based machine, seek an alternative approach to the experiment, or sabotage the process entirely. The developer has confirmed the game is slated for a 2026 release on PC.
