Raid Structure and Difficulty Options
The crossover raid series will be split into three distinct tiers across the upcoming Evercold expansion. Content rollout begins with update 8.01. Players can tackle the encounters across three difficulties: normal, savage, and a third unamed difficulty option arriving next year designed to bridge the gap between normal and savage modes.
"We're developing it so every warrior of light can enjoy the content," director and producer Naoki Yoshida explained during the reveal.
Development on the crossover involves core members from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Motomu Toriyama and the FF14 scenario team are writing the story, with supervision provided by original FF7 writer Kazushige Nojima and remake trilogy creative director Tetsuya Nomura. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation lead Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that both teams are working closely to capture the authentic flavor of FF7 inside the MMORPG.
Gold Saucer Updates and Typing Minigame
Alongside the raid announcement, Square Enix revealed that the iconic Gold Saucer from FF7 is being integrated directly into the FF14 Gold Saucer. Players can access a four-player typing minigame titled Keybound Brawler starting on October 28.
"Everybody has a keyboard, right?" Yoshida remarked during the presentation, noting that the minigame gives players a new way to practice typing in chat.
While Cloud and Sephiroth were featured prominently in the initial key art, developers stopped short of confirming a full roster of crossover characters. Hamaguchi teased further announcements regarding additional FF7 characters in the near future.
