A new total conversion mod for Crusader Kings 3, titled Dragon Age: Thedas at War, has launched following its debut at the fan-run Paradox modathon. The project, which functions as a BioWare-inspired overhaul of the base game, trades the historical kingdoms of Europe for the geography and politics of Thedas.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC (Crusader Kings 3)
  • Content: 40 playable cultures and Dragon Age-specific religions.
  • Key Feature: A "Mega Wars" system that allows lesser vassals to pick sides in realm-wide conflicts.
  • Requirements: Base Crusader Kings 3; Roads to Power and Royal Court DLCs for landless adventurer gameplay.

Setting the Scene

The mod is set ten years after the Second Blight. Players can take control of various factions, including the Dales under Hassandriel, the kingdom of Ferelden under Teyrn Caedmon, or attempt to climb the political ladder in Orlais. The mod allows for magic use, enabling players to heal allies or cast destructive spells on the battlefield, provided their character is not currently within a Circle.

The Mega Wars System

A central addition to the mod is the "Mega Wars" system. This mechanic aims to increase the involvement of less powerful characters during large-scale conflicts, offering vassals the chance to choose sides. Depending on their decisions and the outcome of the war, these vassals may either benefit or suffer from the shift in power.

Current Status and Future Development

While the mod is available now via Steam, the creators have noted that they cannot guarantee a stable experience in multiplayer mode. The development team plans to release further updates in chunks, focusing on complex additions as they continue to build out the world of Thedas within the Crusader Kings 3 engine.
