Grid-Based Ship Building and Combat
Created by indie developer Ballast Games, Cloudbreaker blends fast-paced horde survival with grid-based inventory mechanics. Players pilot an airship beneath the clouds to fight waves of Biotes—ancient biotech remnants from lost worlds—in order to secure a Bloil Crystal required to sustain the settlement of Haven.
Combat relies on real-time aim and movement alongside puzzle-like ship customization. New engine parts and relics fit directly into a ship grid, where placement alters build synergy and combat effects. As players progress, additional airships with distinct grid shapes and independent upgrade trees become available, opening up new play styles and tougher boss encounters.
Linux Support and Steam Deck Status
The developer confirmed that both the upcoming launch and the current playable demo run natively on Linux, rather than relying on Proton compatibility layers. While the game features full mouse, keyboard, and controller support that may appeal to handheld users, Ballast Games has not yet confirmed formal Steam Deck optimization or official presets.
Players can test the game using the free native demo on Steam ahead of the September 15 launch, and can add the title to their Steam wishlist to track upcoming updates.
