If you have been trekking through the dungeons in Barony, you might have noticed a wave of new adventurers joining the fray following the recent Steam Summer sale. To keep the momentum going, the developers have pulled back the curtain on what players can expect in the upcoming free expansion, Instruments of Destruction: Part 2.
The goal for this update is to make every run feel distinct by expanding the variety of gear you can find in chests, purchase from shops, or loot from fallen foes. While the developers have noted that the expansion is still a work-in-progress—meaning stats and behaviors might shift before the final release—they have provided a clear look at the new equipment categories arriving soon.
New Armor and Shield Options
Players who prefer mobility over raw protection will have more choices with new light armor additions. These are designed to help low-strength classes maintain speed without sacrificing essential defensive bonuses. For those who prefer a heavier approach, the update introduces specialized armor sets crafted by the Salamanders:
- Silver Set: Tailored for stalwart defenders focusing on endurance.
- BlackIron Set: Designed for the conquering army, offering passive benefits for aggressive fighters.
Shields are also receiving a tactical overhaul. The new models reward expert timing with specific retaliatory effects: bone shields knock enemies backward, silver shields unleash a divine gleam, and blackiron shields actively lower an opponent's defenses.
Weapon Variety and Ranged Tactical Gear
Melee combatants will find new material types for weapons, which are intended to provide an edge when facing enemies that might otherwise resist standard strikes. According to the development team, keeping a diverse kit of materials will be more rewarding than sticking to a single weapon type throughout your run.
Ranged specialists also gain significant utility with two new missile weapons and unique ammunition types. Bones offer an abundant, disposable ranged option, while plumbata and darts introduce debuffs that can fundamentally shift the outcome of a difficult encounter.
Expanded Item Pool
Beyond standard equipment, the team is adding more item variants that feature additional enchantments. These are intended to build on the success of the headgear and masks introduced in the Eat My Hat update, offering more specialized gear combinations for players to discover.
For those looking to catch up before the new update drops, the Perfect Party Bundle is currently available, offering a 10% discount on DLC with the cost of any items you already own subtracted from the total. If you are looking to connect with other players to discuss these changes, the official Barony Discord remains the primary hub for the community.
While the team is keeping some secrets under wraps for now, they intend to share more details on the remaining features of Instruments of Destruction: Part 2 as development continues.
