I’ll be the first to admit it: when I saw a $60 price tag attached to a re-release of a 13-year-old game, I assumed the market might push back. It turns out, I was wrong. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has defied my skepticism, moving more than two million copies in just its first 24 hours on the market.

Quick Facts

  • Game: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
  • Launch Date: July 9, 2026
  • Day One Sales: 2 million copies
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X

Ubisoft announced the milestone on X the day after the game's launch, thanking players for returning to the Jackdaw or stepping aboard for the first time. The publisher’s phrasing here is notably specific; by citing "two million copies sold," they are drawing a clear line in the sand compared to Assassin's Creed Shadows, which was previously characterized by the "one million players" who logged in during its own debut.

While Shadows famously hit the second-highest day one sales revenue in the franchise's history, the current landscape on Steam paints a different picture. Black Flag Resynced is currently standing head and shoulders above other recent series entries in terms of concurrent player counts. Of course, direct comparisons are tricky: Valhalla had a delayed arrival on Steam, and Shadows dealt with both a $10 higher price point and significant outside noise regarding its setting and characters. Even so, the sheer volume of players suggests that nostalgia remains a powerful draw in the current gaming market.

The Community's Reaction

For Ubisoft, the success of the overhauled title is a vindication of their strategy. Martin Schelling, the Assassin's Creed brand boss, stated that the game has always held a special place for the community and for the development team itself.

"Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then," Schelling said. "Seeing two million players set sail on day one, along with the great reviews from critics, is the greatest reward we could have hoped for."

Whether this momentum will sustain itself remains to be seen, but for now, the numbers are clear: players are more than willing to pay full price to revisit the Caribbean, regardless of the game's original age.
