Asobi, a third-party remote play application, has updated its functionality to include PlayStation Plus cloud streaming. This development allows Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Linux users to stream games from the PS Plus catalog and select owned digital titles without requiring a PlayStation 4 or PS5 console.
Quick Facts
- Platform Availability: Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Linux devices.
- Requirement: Accessing cloud gaming requires a PSN account with an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
- Status: Currently in an open playtest; free-to-play upon full release.
- Feature Set: Free users receive 1080p at 30fps streaming. A planned premium upgrade will offer 1080p at 60fps, HDR, controller haptics, and 4K upscaling.
Developer ichenzo confirmed the feature is now live for playtest participants. While the app remains unaffiliated with Sony or PlayStation, it integrates directly into the Steam environment, removing the need for users to exit to desktop mode or install third-party software outside of the Steam store.
In addition to cloud streaming, Asobi retains standard Remote Play capabilities, enabling users to stream games directly from their own PS4 or PS5 consoles. While currently limited to SteamOS and Linux, the developer has indicated plans to add a Windows version in the future.
