Embark Studios has announced that Arc Raiders is receiving its next major content update, titled Frozen Trail, on October 8 for PC. The announcement arrives as recent user reviews on Steam have dipped to a 50% positive "Mixed" rating due to growing concerns over cheating issues and a lack of new content.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: October 8
  • Platform: PC
  • Developer: Embark Studios
  • Key Additions: New wintry map, Outpost base, Skill Tree adjustments, and high-level challenges

New Map and End-Game Challenges

Frozen Trail introduces a mountainous, wintry map designed around greater verticality and exploration where executive producer Aleksander Grøndal notes "something big has happened" with the Arc. Alongside the new environment, the update adds a high-level challenge tailored for experienced players, expanding on the intense multiplayer fights seen against foes like the Queen and Matriarch.

To combat the shortage of long-term pursuits that lapsed players experienced, the update also introduces new Arc enemy types, ranging from small utility units to enormous machines that halt players mid-raid.

Progression Overhauls and The Outpost

Addressing player progression, Embark is expanding the Raider Den concept into a new base called the Outpost. Players can decorate the Outpost, research new elements, and work toward reclaiming the surface. Additionally, developers are reworking the Skill Tree to give players more agency over their character builds and making Raider Decks more engaging.

Alongside content additions, Embark is continuing backend work on matchmaking, anti-cheat, stability, and quality-of-life improvements. The studio also officially clarified that only PvP fights initiated deliberately by players will impact their aggression rating for matchmaking.
