Campaign Scope and Gameplay Details
Co-founded by Patrice Désilets — the creator of Assassin's Creed and creative director of its first two entries — Panache Digital Games has been developing the project since the early 2010s. The title was formally revealed at Summer Game Fest in June.
1666: Amsterdam is a narrative adventure split across two distinct time periods: 1666 and 1999. Players take on the role of a witch investigating Amsterdam's secrets in 1666, accompanied by a playable cat companion possessed by the consciousness of a man summoned from 1999.
According to an update posted on Steam by Panache Digital Games, the early access release will feature the "first piece" of the campaign, offering approximately 15 hours of gameplay. The studio anticipates that the early access phase will last roughly a year, during which several major content updates will roll out.
AI Asset Clarification
Following the release of a free demo alongside its June reveal, the studio confirmed it utilized generative AI for certain in-game portraits and external marketing assets. However, Panache Digital Games stated that the early access and final full versions of the game will not include any AI-generated assets.
