Modern Features and Bonus Content

The rebuilt version provides a pixel-perfect port of the original game, which features over 1,500 screens for players to explore. Bit Kid has introduced several modern quality-of-life improvements, including full gamepad support with remappable controls, achievement tracking, and an optional in-game timer for speedrunning. Players can also toggle between different display effects, such as retro CRT and handheld LCD styles, alongside various aspect ratio settings.

To provide additional challenges beyond the base game, Bit Kid and developer Hempuli have included three specific bonus modes:

  • UltraTough: A new, challenging mode developed by Bit Kid.
  • Knytt XH (Extra Hard): A mod created by Hempuli, the developer behind Baba Is You and Environment Station Alpha.
  • Brutally Unfair Knytt: A remixed version of the original world designed for increased difficulty.

"Knytt was hugely influential on my path as a game developer, so it’s been incredibly rewarding to take tools I made for my games and use them on a modern version," said James Petruzzi, founder and lead developer of Bit Kid.
