Learning the Dive move in Pokémon Pokopia lets you explore beneath the waves on the Nintendo Switch 2. Introduced as part of August 2026's version 2.0.0 update, the move is available to all players for free without requiring an Expansion Pass purchase, though it also serves as a requirement for starting the Bubbly Basin DLC.

Steps to Learn Dive at a Glance

  1. Download the free version 2.0.0 update.
  2. Learn the Jump and Surf moves.
  3. Raise the environment level of Bleak Beach to level 5.
  4. Visit Professor Tangrowth and track down Manaphy with five bunches of Seaweed.

1. Meet the Prerequisites

Before you can acquire the Dive ability, you must fulfill several gameplay requirements:

  • Download free title update 2.0.0.
  • Learn the Jump move from Magikarp during the Withered Wasteland storyline.
  • Learn the Surf move by progressing the story in Bleak Beach via Lapras.
  • Complete Bleak Beach's "Raise the environment level!" request to reach environment level 5.

2. Track Down Manaphy

Once the prerequisites are complete, head to the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center and speak with Professor Tangrowth. Professor Tangrowth will inform you of a mysterious new island that has appeared to the north.

Surf over to the island to locate Manaphy on the beach. Manaphy will request five bunches of Seaweed. If you do not have any in your inventory, you can easily find Seaweed along nearby beaches.

3. Retrieve the Treasure and Unlock Underwater Controls

Hand the five bunches of Seaweed over to Manaphy. In return, you will be taught how to Dive and asked to investigate a nearby cave to find a piece of treasure.

Inside the cave, locate the plinth holding the decorative Poké Ball. Collect it, then return to Manaphy. After finishing a short tutorial prompt, you will gain the ability to use Dive freely.

How to Use Dive

When you enter the water, Dive activates automatically and surrounds Ditto in a protective bubble. Use the following controls to navigate underwater:

  • Hold B: Swim forward.
  • Press L: Go deeper.
  • Press R: Rise toward the surface.
  • Press ZL: Float in place.
  • Spin Left Analogue Stick: Drop quickly to the ocean floor.

Note: While the Dive ability is free, Manaphy cannot be befriended unless you have purchased and progressed the Expansion Pass.
