Nintendo has deployed the Version 1.1.0 update for Mario Tennis Fever on the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing a heavy dose of Super Mario Galaxy-themed content to the court. The free update, which went live on July 15, 2026, introduces a new map, fresh mechanics, and a significant expansion to how players connect with friends.

Quick Facts

  • New Court: Galaxy Court, featuring high-bouncing balls on a spherical planet surface.
  • GameShare: Support added for playing with friends via GameChat, even if they don't own the game.
  • Fever Racket: Added the Black Hole Racket, capable of pulling players into a damaging gravity well.
  • Characters: Five new Luma colors are now playable.
  • Outfit: Mario's classic outfit is now available as a reward for collecting 5 medals.

Play via GameChat and GameShare

The most substantial technical addition is the integration of GameShare via GameChat. This allows users to invite friends to matches even if those friends do not own a copy of Mario Tennis Fever. The feature supports both swing and button controls, as well as the game's "Mix It Up" mode. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to utilize this functionality.

Galaxy Court and Prankster Comets

The new "Galaxy Court" is designed with a unique physics profile, characterized by high ball bounces despite slower travel speeds. In the new "Galaxy Court Match" special mode, players will encounter "Prankster Comets" that appear as the match progresses, forcing players to adapt their strategies on the fly. Beyond this new addition, players can now also select the Academy Court (Grass, Hard, or Clay) in the court selection menu.

Black Hole Racket and Gameplay Adjustments

The "Black Hole Racket" joins the roster of Fever Rackets. When a Fever Shot lands, it generates a black hole that pulls nearby opponents toward it. Getting too close to the event horizon drains the player's HP gauge; if HP hits zero, the player is knocked out and sucked into the hole. Note that the black hole does not pull in the tennis ball itself.

Version 1.1.0 also implements a wide range of balance changes:

  • Character Tweaks: Characters like Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., and Pauline have received buffs to their ability to aim for the sidelines. Kamek now has increased spin, while Diddy Kong's shot strength has been slightly improved. Rosalina saw adjustments to her movement speed and drop shot distance.
  • Racket Balancing: The Metal Racket now slows player movement while active, and the Ice Flower Racket has been nerfed, reducing the maximum number of Ice Balls from five to four.
  • General Fixes: Star point detection has been adjusted to make executing Star Shots more consistent. Players can now toggle off the ability to hit a flat shot by pressing A and B simultaneously.

A full list of character specifications and racket changes, including fixes for bugs affecting backhand and forehand Star Shots for several characters, is available in the complete patch notes for version 1.1.0.
