CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a free next-gen update on the Nintendo Switch 2 at the end of September 2026, headlined by the addition of official cross-platform mod support on the console.

How Mod Support Works on Switch 2
During an official REDStream at Gamescom 2026, CD Projekt Red detailed how mods will function on the upcoming hardware. Working alongside Paul from Mod.io and Moritz from Yigsoft, the developer confirmed that players will be able to download mods directly from browser pages. The system mirrors PC functionality, allowing cosmetic additions like hoods, cloaks, and glowing eyes. The only restriction is that mods must adhere to first-party guidelines set by Nintendo.
New Controls for Geralt and Roach
Aside from user-generated content, the Switch 2 version introduces several hardware-specific control tweaks. Mouse and gyro controls are built in to improve weapon aiming in both handheld mode and docked mode using a Pro Controller. Motion controls also let players look around the game world naturally.
Horse riding with Roach receives a physical overhaul using the Joy-Cons. Players can flick the controllers like real reins to make Roach move, raise the right Joy-Con to whistle for the horse, and pull back on the controllers to brake and slow down.
