Publisher 4Divinity and developer Hoothanes have officially confirmed that The Defiant is expanding its reach beyond PC. The first-person shooter, which focuses on the history of the Second Sino-Japanese War, will now launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, joining its previously announced Steam version.
Setting and Gameplay Features
Set between the 1930s and 1940s, The Defiant aims to deliver a historical experience centered on the War of Resistance against the Japanese invasion. Players will navigate environments ranging from snowy forests to occupied villages and heavily guarded lanes.
The developer has highlighted a focus on historical authenticity for its arsenal. Players can expect to use a variety of period-accurate firearms, including the Hanyang Rifle, the Mauser Military Pistol, and the MP18 Submachine Gun. According to the developers, these weapons are designed to feel like historical artifacts that players must master to survive.
Player Impact and Narrative
Beyond the combat mechanics, the game places an emphasis on a companion-based narrative. Players will be accompanied by a loyal character throughout the campaign, a design choice intended to add emotional weight to the experience of operating behind enemy lines.
