Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Sunshine will join the Nintendo GameCube Classics app on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13, 2026. The title will be available to all members subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: August 13, 2026
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 (via Nintendo GameCube Classics app)
  • Access Requirement: Active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription

The addition follows the initial announcement of the Nintendo GameCube Classics app during an April 2026 Nintendo Direct. While the app launched in July 2026 with a limited selection, Nintendo indicated a roadmap for expanding the library with titles like Super Mario Sunshine.

Unlike the previous Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, which was released as a limited-time physical and digital product, this version is offered through Nintendo's subscription service. Players will be able to access the game as part of the $49.99 annual Expansion Pack tier, which also includes access to titles for the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, and Virtual Boy, along with various DLC and upgrade packs.

Technical execution for this release mirrors other titles in the GameCube Classics library. The game is an emulation of the 2002 original; it is scaled to support modern screen resolutions but does not include new visual assets or graphical overhauls. Despite the original release date, the title remains part of the expanding catalog of classic software available on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
