A data-tracking project for Marvel Rivals has revealed which character mains receive the most communication bans, pointing squarely at the game's Damage Per Second (DPS) role.

Quick Facts

  • Game: Marvel Rivals (released December 6, 2024, developed and published by NetEase Games)
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X
  • Finding: Data collected on abusive communication bans shows that the most penalized player accounts belong entirely to DPS mains.
  • Top Toxic Hero: Daredevil leads the list with nearly a 10 percent ban rate among tracked data.

How the Toxicity Data Was Tracked

NetEase Games utilizes communication bans to weed out bad behavior when the Marvel Rivals system detects nefarious language in the in-game text or mic chat systems. Players hit with these penalties lose access to voice and text chat features.

To determine which player bases exhibit the most toxic behavior, a community data collector gathered information on accounts receiving abusive communication bans and cross-referenced them with each player's most-played hero. A percentage was then applied to rank each hero.

The Top Five Toxic Hero Mains

The resulting list confirms that the most penalized players skew heavily toward dive and meta DPS options:

  1. Daredevil (tops the list clear of second place with an almost 10 percent rate)
  2. Black Cat
  3. Black Widow
  4. Elsa Bloodstone
  5. Black Panther

Why DPS Mains Rank Highest

Aside from Black Panther, nearly all of these featured characters occupy strong positions in the current meta. Players tracking the data point out that high-performing characters attract competitive players who rely heavily on winning, leading to quicker frustration and tilt when matches do not go their way. Because DPS represents the most commonly played role in Marvel Rivals, these characters continue to shoulder a reputation within the community for aggressive in-game communication.
