Activision has addressed reports of players seeing "account banned" messages while playing the recently released PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The developer confirmed that these notices are appearing as a byproduct of backend updates designed to improve match integrity and prevent legacy exploits.
According to the official Call of Duty Updates account, players may see the notification when they are removed from a match or session while the system applies updated account data. This error does not necessarily mean that enforcement action has been taken against your account.
Concrete Player Consequences
While the ban messages are largely a technical byproduct, Activision continues to monitor the game for genuine violations. The developer is actively issuing bans for accounts identified as intentionally using unauthorized Prestige level hacks or engaging in account manipulation. These cheats have historically allowed players to force others into max prestige or de-rank them, which can lock users out of features and previously unlocked weapons.
Latest Patch Improvements
The security updates arrive alongside a series of technical fixes intended to improve the overall experience on current consoles. The most recent patch includes the following changes:
- Improved mid-match lobby backfilling.
- Reduced input delay for 120Hz+ displays.
- Zombies matches now prioritize PlayStation 5 hosts over PlayStation 4.
- Fixes for smoke grenade VFX.
- A new toggle in the Multiplayer options menu to hide or view other players' custom emblems.
If you encounter a ban message, the developer advises that you simply attempt to reconnect to the game. If you are able to log back in, your account is unaffected.
