Microsoft has officially implemented a price increase across its Xbox Series console lineup as of August 2026. This adjustment, which follows prior warnings issued in June, has resulted in price hikes ranging from $100 to $150 depending on the specific model and memory configuration.

Updated Pricing Structure

The new pricing reflects a significant change for the current hardware generation. The all-digital Xbox Series X now carries a starting price of $749.99 (£619.99 / €749.99). The Xbox Series S has also seen increases, with the 1TB edition now retailing for $599.99 (£519.99 / €599.99) and the 512GB edition priced at $499.99 (£429.99 / €499.99).

Comparison to Nintendo Switch 2

These changes place the older Xbox hardware at a higher price point than the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, which is set to launch at $449.99 (£395.99 / €469.99). However, this price advantage for Nintendo will be temporary; the company has confirmed it will implement a $50 price increase for the Switch 2 one month after its release, bringing the console to $499.99.

Microsoft's latest hardware adjustments apply to markets in the UK and Europe as well, where pricing had previously remained unconfirmed following the initial June announcement. These global price shifts occur amidst ongoing RAM shortages currently impacting the wider technology sector.
