Supermassive Games, the development studio known for Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology, has announced mass gaming layoffs impacting around 75 employees. The studio communicated the workforce reduction through an early morning social media post.

Quick Facts

  • Affected Personnel: Up to 75 employees
  • Company Action: Redundancy consultation process
  • Recent Releases: Directive 8020 and the Until Dawn remake
  • Upcoming Projects: Until Dawn 2 (scheduled for 2027)

Details of the Supermassive Games Job Cuts

The latest announcement marks the third consecutive year of workforce reductions at Supermassive Games. In early 2024, the company cut approximately 90 jobs, followed by an additional 35 layoffs in July 2025.

In their online statement regarding the current cuts, the company wrote, "we have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues." The statement added that the reduction is "a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company."

Studio Performance and Upcoming Schedule

The studio has faced commercial and critical challenges following the performance of recent titles. While 2015's Until Dawn proved to be a major success, subsequent entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology failed to achieve the same market impact. More recently, 2026's Directive 8020 underperformed, and the recent remake of the original Until Dawn drew criticism from players over technical issues and atmospheric changes.

Supermassive Games' next scheduled release is Until Dawn 2 in 2027, featuring actors Dacre Montgomery and Neil Newbon. Whether the upcoming sequel will release on schedule and stabilize the struggling studio remains to be seen.
