Quick Facts
- Mod Name: Stardew 3DVR
- Creator: GingasVR
- Platform: PC (via Nexus Mods)
- Core Feature: Voxel conversion that transforms 2D sprites into 3D geometry for virtual reality headsets in real time
Stardew Valley continues to expand well beyond its original 2D design through community modifications. A new release on Nexus Mods called Stardew 3DVR converts the farming simulation into a fully 3D, first-person virtual reality experience.
Built by modder GingasVR—known for previous immersion projects adding smart plug wind and temperature simulations to games like Palworld and Skyrim—the project lets players walk through Pelican Town using real hand movements to swing an axe, cast a fishing line, or water crops.
How Stardew 3DVR Works
The technical approach behind Stardew 3DVR relies on a real-time voxel conversion rather than replacing individual assets. By building 3D geometry directly from Stardew’s existing 2D sprites, the mod maintains high compatibility with other community creations. According to the creator, players can use overhaul mods and custom character sprites, such as an Astarion sprite, while playing in VR.
A floating menu sits on the player's wrist for interface navigation. Hotkeys allow users to switch between flat 2D, walkable 3D, and full VR modes instantly without altering their save files.
A rival project named The Third Dimension, developed by modder KittyCatCasey, takes an alternative approach by rebuilding assets entirely from scratch to achieve sharper visuals, trading away some compatibility in the process.
Compatibility and Limitations
Because Stardew 3DVR builds around existing game assets, most modifications remain compatible. However, certain overrides can cause conflicts. For instance, mods that alter Stardew Valley's fishing minigame can break the custom VR menu built specifically around the vanilla interface.
