While Bethesda continues production on The Elder Scrolls 6 for PC and Xbox Series S/X, one fan has turned waiting room boredom into a full-scale development project. A solo developer tracking their progress across social media since March 13 has spent 116 days building an indie pixel art fan game titled The Indie Scrolls.
Quick Facts
- Project Name: The Indie Scrolls
- Engine: Unreal Engine 5 (UE5)
- Development Status: Active solo project (Day 116 reached as of recent tracking)
- Official Platforms for TES 6: PC, Xbox Series S/X
Inside The Indie Scrolls Development
The developer announced their intentions via social media with a straightforward goal: "Day 1 making my own TES until TES 6 goes out!" Built using Unreal Engine 5, the project blends modern systems and mechanics with old-school graphics. The developer has shared that plans involve an Empress, an evil mage, and potential time travel elements, though they are currently focused entirely on characters and base systems without a strict roadmap.
Progress updates shared online have showcased several distinct fantasy creatures and character designs. Among them are an irate, gold-finned mermaid, a gladiator "Dogman" wielding a leather bull whip, and an armored skeleton that collapses into a heap of bones upon defeat. Enemies with flesh feature reactions where they spill a bloody barbecue sauce effect when beaten.
Bethesda's Official Development Status
Bethesda maintains that production on The Elder Scrolls 6 is progressing as planned, with developers playing the game daily. Additionally, Bethesda confirmed that the development roadmap for the anticipated RPG remains unaffected by recent Xbox mass layoffs, despite initial developer concerns regarding potential delays and crunch.
