Ever find yourself playing a game and feeling green with envy over the scenery? Whether it is the sunny coastlines of Final Fantasy VII or the eerie, haunted halls of Luigi's Mansion 3, some game settings are just begging for a real-world visit. Since we can't actually teleport to Wuhu Island, I decided to do the math to see what a week-long stay—specifically July 6–12—would look like at these iconic digital destinations.
To calculate these costs, I compared the fictional locations to real-world equivalents based on their atmosphere, location, and standard of service. Here is how the costs stack up.
1. Final Fantasy VII: Johnny’s Seaside Inn
If you are looking for a deal, this is it. While the Royal Coast or the Costa del Sol Resort will set you back about $200 a night, Johnny’s Seaside Inn is technically free—provided you are willing to get your hands dirty. Johnny will let you stay in his shack for nothing, as long as you help him fix his boiler. If you aren't on friendly terms with him, a similar rundown rental in the area would cost roughly $50 a night.
2. Pokémon Legends Z-A: Hotel Z
Located in a quieter, slightly abandoned corner of Paris, Hotel Z is an affordable option. Because it is off the beaten path, you can expect to pay around $90 a night, which aligns with modest, out-of-city-center Parisian hotels. The rooms are well-decorated, and you get rooftop access, though you might have to beg AZ for a free stay if you're really looking to save.
3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons Resort
For a remote, tropical island vibe, I looked at Guam as a real-world proxy. A stay at a place like the Royal Orchid Hotel Guam costs about $100 a night. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers a beautiful escape, just keep in mind that Tom Nook’s potential "extra fees" are something even the best travel budget can't account for.
4. Luigi’s Mansion 3: The Last Resort
To capture the ghostly charm of The Last Resort, Italy is the only logical destination. Based on haunted locations like the Hotel Burchianti in Florence, a stay here will cost you about $250 a night. You get centuries-old furniture and a legitimately spooky atmosphere, though ghost sightings are, unfortunately, not guaranteed.
5. Wuhu Island: Cocoba Hotel
Revisiting the Sports Resort location requires a spot with mountains, golden sands, and a curved shoreline. Using the Gloria Palace Hotel in Gran Canaria as a benchmark, a stay on Wuhu Island would cost roughly $250 a night, though a five-star experience at the Cocoba would likely push that price higher.
6. Resident Evil 9: The Wrenwood Hotel
Assuming you are visiting the version of the hotel without the monsters, the Wrenwood is a prime, spacious city-center location. Comparing it to the Detroit Hilton Garden Inn, you are looking at about $320 a night. Of course, sneaking into the present-day, dilapidated version is free, but we highly recommend against it unless you want to risk an encounter with Dr. Gideon.
7. Hitman: The Himmapan Hotel
If you want to live like a high-profile target or a world-class entertainer, the Himmapan Hotel in Bangkok is the place to be. This is a true luxury experience, with riverfront king rooms starting at $1,040 a night. If you really want to splash out, a suite will cost you a staggering $3,139 per night.
