Another year, another event season passes without concrete release dates for some of the industry's most anticipated titles. With studios exercising caution in an era of frequent delays and the looming shadow of Grand Theft Auto 6, many players are left wondering if their most-wanted games are headed for release or perpetual limbo.

The Longest Waits and Current Statuses

Some of these titles have been in the public eye for years. Beyond Good and Evil 2, for instance, has been in development at Ubisoft Montreal for at least 18 years, having first appeared at an E3 event back in 2008. Similarly, The Elder Scrolls VI remains little more than a concept, with Xbox having promised only that a reveal will happen eventually.

Other projects are newer but equally shrouded in mystery:

  • Nivalis: This cyberpunk life sim from ION Lands has a rough 2026 window, but no specific date for its business and relationship-focused gameplay.
  • Judas: Ken Levine’s latest project from Ghost Story Games has seen very little news since its trailer three years ago.
  • Light No Fire: Hello Games' massive open-world fantasy adventure is currently in development, though it is not expected to launch soon.
  • Marvel's Blade: Arkane Lyon is still working on this project, confirmed by the team's lead concept artist amid speculation regarding studio layoffs.
  • Kingdom Hearts IV: While fans continue to debate combat mechanics, the game lacks a confirmed date, with only unsubstantiated rumors of a 2027 release.
  • The Witcher 4: CD Projekt Red is working on the next installment featuring Ciri, though it remains without a firm date.
  • Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra: Having missed its original early 2026 window, the game is still in development, according to recent updates.
  • Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet: Naughty Dog’s latest title had no presence at the summer State of Play, leading to speculation that it may be targeting next-generation hardware.
